Riley Reiff Biography
Riley Reiff is one of the most popular and richest American Football Player who was born on December 1, 1988 in Parkston, South Dakota, United States. Riley Reiff, born December 1, 1988, is an American football offensive lineman for the Minnesota Vikings in the National Football League. Reiff played college football at Iowa. He was drafted by Detroit Lions in round one, 23rd overall, of the 2012 NFL Draft. Reiff signed with the Vikings after he spent five seasons with them.
The Detroit Lions drafted Reiff at 23rd overall during the 2012 NFL Draft. Reiff was second among only two offensive tackles to be selected in the first round (behind Matt Kalil who was 4th overall by Minnesota Vikings). Reiff’s rookie campaign duties were limited to being a tight end/H back. Reiff made his debut in the NFL on September 30, when he was given his first start. Reiff made his first start at left tackle in the Thanksgiving Day matchup against Houston Texans. He rotated in the offensive lines as usual, and also returned a kickoff of 10 yards. Pro Football Focus (PFF) rated Reiff as the Lions’ top run blocker despite his small role during the 2012 season. His teammates voted him Mel Farr Rookie-of-the Year Award.
After veteran Lions tackle Jeff Backus retired before the start of the 2013 season, Reiff took over his position at left tackle. He prepared for his expanded duties by adding over 12 pounds of muscle. He started at left tackle in the season opener game against Minnesota on September 8 and helped the Lions gain 481 yards of total offense. Reiff ended up starting all 16 games at left tackle and helped pave the way for 15 rushing touchdowns and an average of 392.1 net yards per game, the sixth-best mark in the league. Regarding to pass blocking, the Lions ranked second in the NFL in sacks allowed with 23.
In 2014, Reiff started his mainstay at left tackle in Week 1 against the New York Giants on September 8 and provided protection that led to 20 first downs for the Lions offense. He missed the first game of his NFL career due to injury on Thanksgiving Day, but rebounded to start all 15 games he played in.
Reiff was already a projected first-round pick in the NFL Draft, even before his junior season. Tony Pauline, Sports Illustrated’s No. 14 prospect, ranked Reiff as such in October 2011. His midseason draft board ranked him as the No. 14 prospect. Reiff was still considered a top-15 selection prior to the NFL Combine, February 2012. Reiff showed good athleticism at the combine but was disappointed by his measurementables. His 33 /4 inch (84.5 cm), although longer than Joe Thomas’ 32 /2 inches or 82.6 cm, and Jake Long’s 32 /8 in (or 83.5 cm), arms were deemed too short to be an NFL left tackle. Reiff was therefore dropped from the first round of some mock drafts after the combine. Mike Mayock still ranked Reiff the No. After the combine, Mike Mayock still ranked him No. 2 offensive tackle behind Matt Kalil, as he did before the combine.
